Help prevent new HIV infections in El Salvador

Your support has been invaluable in helping us restore community-level HIV prevention services in El Salvador.

Thanks to your generous donation, from October to December 2025, 126 people at greater risk for acquiring HIV received discreet, high-quality, and confidential HIV prevention services, including a rapid HIV test, counseling and delivery of results, initiation of HIV preventive treatment (preexposure prophylaxis, or “PrEP”), and a prevention kit with information, and condom and lubricant samples. These services were provided under a social marketing model that goes beyond short-term interventions, allowing users to secure continued access to prevention services and PrEP for an entire year through a clear, structured follow-up pathway.

We were able to carry out three community outreach events and a complementary “PrEP Day” event, responding to strong demand for HIV prevention options that are confidential, respectful, and high-quality. Through targeted digital outreach and clear institutional communication, PASMO was able to reach individuals who otherwise face barriers to accessing prevention services due to work schedules, limited availability, or concerns about privacy and confidentiality. This flexible approach ensured that participants could access services at a time that worked for them, without compromising confidentiality or quality of care.

One story that powerfully illustrates the impact of this project is that of a 35-year-old man from San Salvador who had previously initiated prevention services with PASMO but discontinued it when services were temporarily suspended. Thanks to this project, he returned to care and described the experience as respectful, professional, and reassuring. Receiving counseling, HIV self-testing, and three months of PrEP medication in a single visit allowed him to protect his health without fear of stigma or exposure. For him, the privacy of the setting and the efficiency of the process that was completed in less than 15 minutes, made all the difference.
