Looking back & Looking ahead: Afrin Hospital

By Pelle Keulen | Coordinator Projects& Partners.

Hand in hand with the Independent Doctors Association, Hospitainer, and the resilient local community, our response to 2023’s earthquakes turned into a beacon of hope and healing through the building of the Amanos Hospital.

This hospital isn’t just a desperately needed healthcare facility for the local community—it’s a lifeline for a region in need, a promise of revival and growth.

Amanos hospital is a livelihood source for so many Syrian families who seek a way to provide for their families in trying times that endure for over 12 years now. By the build up of the hospital and the offering of jobs and self sustainability for the local community, we embody our Camp to CampUs philosophy in this project.

Nurse Nour’s tale is the example of the transformation Amanos Hospital brings. Displaced from her home in Eastern Ghouta in 2018 after a five year long siege, one that included numerous war crimes allegations including chemical weapons attacks that left her husband severely disabled, she fled to Afrin for safety. With her husband incapacitated, Amanos Hospital isn’t just a job for Nour—it’s a lifeline for her family and a force for the local community’s betterment.
Through the lens of our remarkable local Syrian filmmaker, we’ll unveil the stories unfurling within Amanos Hospital, stories of lives changed, battles won, and hope reignited.

To our invaluable partners on the ground and donors who make dreams reality, our gratitude knows no bounds. Your unwavering support fuels this enduring mission of compassion and change.

Now, months later, Movement on the Ground is still hard at work laying the groundwork for more direct aid in Syria. This will be a long-term process, as the situation is understanably complex. Therefore we have decided to close this fundraising project for now, and will return once we have a concrete plan of intervention. We once again thank you for your support, and if you want to help our mission in the meantime, please consider donationg to our mission in Morocco, where we are also providing aid following a devastating earthquake.
