Project HOPE is currently responding to the refugee crisis in Macedonia, as millions of refugees are making the dangerous trek by land and sea through Europe.
We began responding to the Syrian Refugee Crisis in late 2013 by delivering more than $100 million worth of medicines and medical supplies to refugee camps in Turkey. With the crisis continuing to evolve, Project HOPE is now coordinating with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and partners in Macedonia – one of the three most impacted Balkan countries by the refugee crisis – to meet the health needs of the refugees through the provision of critically needed medicines and medical supplies.
On September 11th, a Project HOPE team visited a refugee camp in Gevgelija where refugees are being registered, sheltered and provided medical care. The camp has a well-equipped Military Container Ambulance Roomer where there are continuous rotations of medical doctors and nurses and the General Hospital in Gevgelija is also seeing all refugees with urgent health needs.
While the MoH is providing as many medicines and supplies for the refugees as they can, there is not enough set aside for the crisis and the fear of a shortage is great. In response, Project HOPE is working with the MoH and the Gevgelija Hospital – a long-term HOPE partner – to secure needed medicines and prepare the first shipment of donated supplies to Macedonia.
With great thanks to generous donors like you, we are helping to ensure that refugees and their families receive the medical care they need. To stay up-to-date on HOPE’s activities in Macedonia, visit our webpage and profile on ReliefWeb.
