Summary

Horses that come into SEO's care from neglect cases are some of the most vulnerable animals you may ever see. Each year, we budget an estimated amount of funds to be set aside to cover the myriad of veterinary needs the horses may have. This year, that need has far outpaced our budget. Funds raised will allow us to continue to offer the much-needed veterinary services.

Challenge

Lack of basic care is often extremely hard a horse's body. When a horse's intake does not meet their energy needs, they are forced to use up other existing tissues in their body. This can lead to extreme fatigue, decreased blood flow, decreased organ function, structural weakness, poor hoof quality, and lowered ability to fight off parasites and infections. When law enforcement steps in and allows us to get the horses to safety, they often have a long road to recovery ahead of them.

Solution

By supporting this project, you can be part of a team of people who come together to help remove neglected horses from horrendous situations. To say yes to helping law enforcement, SEO needs to have the finances available to responsibly care for any horses we agree to rehabilitate. Once funds are secured, we can agree to take on additional horses in need.

Long-Term Impact

In order to help reduce the numbers of neglected horses, it is important the potential offenders know that animal neglect laws will be enforced in our community. With city and county budgets continuing to be reduced, they need our support to continue to respond and act on animal neglect calls. Our long term goal is to make clear that horse neglect and abuse will have serious consequences in our community and our hope is that fewer horses will have to suffer.
