Tilly's First Ride!

Tilly's first ride
6-year-old QH Mare Tilly had her first ride last week!
Tilly came to us after no one picked her at a herd dispersal due to a damaged eye. Once under our care we soon discovered that she was in foal so eye surgery would have to wait. After about year of eye treatments and once the foal was weaned, Tilly had her left eye removed.
Tilly is still needs lots of training, but one eye has not slowed her down. She has a bit of red mare sass, but we like it!
Tilly is one of many horses that need extra time and care before they can be ready for adoption. Your support makes all the difference in their lives!

New Intakes Zazu and Nala
By Kim Mosiman | Executive Director
![Zazu]()
Zazu
Meet our two newest intakes Zazu and Nala. They are both significantly underweight, scoring a 2 out of 9 on the Henneke Body Condition Scale. Both horses came in covered with lice and rain rot.
Zazu is a Paint type gelding who is about 18 years old. He had some harsh lung sounds and was not thrilled to bend his hind legs. We will radiograph his hocks and look for arthritis after he is stronger and feeling better.
Nala is a Quarter Horse Type mare that appears to be about 5 years old. She is sore on a front foot, likely caused by a thin weak sole. She also is off on a hind leg from what we are guessing is a weak stifle. Both conditions will be reevaluated once her feet have been able to dry up and she has had enough calories and time to build muscle. For now, this duo’s job will be to just rest, eat and gain strength.
If you would like to help Zazu and Nala’s recovery, please consider taking advantage of GlobalGivings New Monthly Donor Campaign. Any new monthly donation will be matched 100% after 4 monthly donations!

Meet the new horses under our care
By Kim Mosiman | Executive Director
![Burrata]()
Burrata
Thanks to your support, Burrata, Cam, Cheddar and Elliott’s lives are heading for a much brighter future!
Over the last few weeks, all four of these horses have gone from at risk situations to under Sound Equine Options care. Burrata and Cam came from an overpopulated feral herd. They had conditions that desperately needed care. Cheddar is Cam’s foal, so he came along for the ride. Elliott on the other hand, came from a law enforcement situation and needs some groceries and diagnostic veterinary care.
As we head into winter, these horses are only the tip of the iceberg of horses that will need our help. Thank you for your continued support, you help change their lives!
