Hello,
We are happy to report some good news to you, to kick off our latest update!
Ontario’s Preventing Unethical Puppy Sales Act (PUPS Act) received royal assent earlier this month! This Bill will prohibit the operation of puppy mills in Ontario and make it illegal to:
Humane Canada celebrates the passage of this bill and will continue to advocate for the end of puppy mills, both in Ontario and nationwide.
In other news, in our last report we updated you on Bill C-332 to better protect companion animals and survivors of coercive or controlling conduct. We are pleased to share with you that coercive control legislation (Bill C-332) unanimously passed the House of Commons and will move onto the Senate! This is a landmark moment, with Parliament recognizing the critical link between human violence and animal violence in the Criminal Code.
Survivors of coercive or controlling conduct, and their children, are made more vulnerable because of their love and dedication to their animals. Animals are made more vulnerable by a criminal justice system that does not adequately recognize their abuse. With your support, Humane Canada has been working to change this.
From the Humane Canada team, and companion animals across Canada, we thank you for continued support. Your gift to Humane Canada truly makes a difference, as we continue to advocate to end puppy mills in Canada, and protect all animals.
