According to the 2015 Disaster Report, more than 5,000 schools were damaged by the massive earthquake in 2015 in Nepal. Among 14 earthquakes affected districts, Makwanpur was one of the most affected districts. Across the Makwanpur District 747 school buildings and 2,390 class rooms were damaged and thousands of students were affected. (Source: District Education Office Makwanpur). In order to continue to provide education, many organisations were working to rebuild schools and their environments.
Our operating partner in nepal, EBMF, is one of the leading partner organisations with the District Education Office for rebuilding schools in Makwanpur district. For this purpose, EBMF have committed to reconstruct 22 community schools of rural Makwanpur. Reconstruction work has been done with the recommendation of DEO and approval of Nepal Reconstruction Authority. In the reconstruction plan, EBMF supported classroom construction, toilets construction, drinking water, fencing, maintenance and repairing. A recent three day field visit was made to inaugurate newly constructed schools in Dhiyal and BhartaVDC which were funded by Child Rescue Nepal and delivered by EBMF. The schools were as follow: -
1. Sarswati Primary School Dhiyal-6 Morenge
2. Sarswati Primary School Bharta-4 Dokotar
3. Sunderikalika Primary School Bharta-2 Lwang
The schools were supported for two room earthquake resistant permanent buildings as well as a drinking water and toilet facility in Sarswati Primary School Bharta-4 Dokotar. The building of this school was damage by the earthquake and class were running in temporary learning centre. Now the building has been completed and handed over to the community and school management committee. An inauguration program was conducted at the school in the presence of CRN / EBMF representatives. The inauguration program was schedule as below.
1. Sarswati Primary School Dhiyal-6 Morenge by Mr. James Gaskell (UK donor) on 15th March 2017
2. Sarswati Primary School Bharta-4 Dokotar by Mr. Karna Sher Tamang (EBMF Chair Person) on16th March 2017
3. Sunderikalika Primary School Bharta-2 Lwang by Mr. Ben Mayo (CRN UK staff) on 17th March 2017
