Background
The world watched as Liberian kids as young as 10 years old were exploited as armed combatants. Under threat of death, they committed terrible acts of violence against the Liberian society. Many turned to substance abuse to cope with their experiences. In partnership with IDEFOC, our program named Botanical Reintegration Village aims to provide groups of former child soldiers a three-month program to help them recover from their trauma and obtain the skills necessary for social reintegration.
Project update
The project management partner Initiative For The Development Of Former Child-Soldiers (IDEFOCS), have identified a business opportunity in Buchanan, Liberia, providing local laundry services. There is currently no major business of this kind in Buchanan and establishing this will hopefully result in a sustainable business that can generate profits and provide employment opportunities for both female and male workers. The form of employment is planned to be flexible with some daily workers, some weekly, as well as monthly employees. In the longer-term, this project will hopefully offer people the opportunity to earn an income, enable integration, while supporting overall positive sustainable impact on the society.
Thank you!
