Dear Supporters,
Summer is settling in at Wild Horse Rescue Center, which means hot temperatures, high humidity and frequent storms. Extreme weather conditions are something the mustangs are used to, coming from the wild.
When the sun is shining and the temperature rises our horses usually go swimming in the pond and as the storm comes they seek shelter in the woods. Most of our horses out in a pasture are able to do this. The horses that are undergoing rehabilitation are kept in smaller pens. These pens are 24x24 foot (7x7m) big.
These horses must rely on the shelter that we provide for them. We have been putting up temporary sheds but these are not a permanent solution. They are not made with material strong enough to survive the storms or if a horse rubs on it. The plan is to build a big covered area that will cover half of each pen and an alleyway between the pens. In total, we have ten pens that need covering. This cover would be built to be durable. It would consist of metal bars, a metal roof and wooden poles.
Benefits from a permanent cover:
A permanent cover would greatly improve not only the horses’ lives but also the volunteers working at the centre! Donations will contribute towards the cost of this project!
In other news
At the end of June, David, a professional who has worked with mustangs his whole life and has even adopted a horse from our centre, came to WHRC to do a demo. Volunteers observed him working with the horses and then got to lend a hand. It was a great day, appreciated by the horses and people equally!
We hope you all have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Wild Horse Rescue Centre
