Summary

Shuri is a baby giraffe who was brought to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre for care. When just 3 days old, she was found weak and dehydrated but clinging to life. Shuri is now almost 3 months old and still needs to be bottle fed for at least 6 months. As she grows up, she will be given nutritious solid food in the form of lucerne and 'boskos', organic pellets that are the closest feed to the natural diet of herbivores. She further requires medication and regular veterinary checkups.

Challenge

Although born in the wild, the mothers of baby animals are often not healthy or young enough to feed and sustain their young. This little giraffe would have died of starvation and dehydration without an intervention that brought her to HESC for treatment and ongoing care. Her mother wasn't healthy enough to take care of her.

Solution

By donating towards Shuri's care you can help her to grow up healthy and strong and become the majestic giraffe she was meant to be and to roam free again when she is returned to the wild.

Long-Term Impact

Every wild animal saved and rehabilitated contributes to the conservation of our wildlife heritage to ensure that our children and their children will have the pleasure of enjoying nature and all its creatures.
