Ponleu, a 14-year-old boy, is the oldest child in the family who lives with three older brothers and one younger sister. Their house is small and is 5 km away from the school. Same as other classmates, he rides a bicycle to school every day. Ponleu has joined the team since June 2017.
“I have become a team captain since last year when Soksophano was graduated from our school. I was chosen to be a team leader because I was brave, confident and diligent in my work. As a leader, I always come to the field earlier than others before practice, and coordinate team members to ensure all materials are ready to the pitch. I am a positive person and passionate about football. It is my dream to be a football player and I know I am moving forward to make it come true. I have received many encouragements from my parents, teacher, coach and friends. I am lucky that my parents want me to play football, and they always encourage me to attend the training regularly because they also like sports. However, they asked me to score good marks in school. I have proved that I could perform well in my class and make them proud. Since training has been scheduled to Saturdays and Sundays, so I have enough time to participate in training and study. After joining TFCF football team, I have learnt to manage time more efficiently and help my parents’ work as much as possible. My parents were excited to see my changes, and I am really thankful to them. I am a goalkeeper and I have learnt a lot from my coach, such as catching balls away from the vicinity of the goal line, and moving the ball over the defended goal-line within the frame of the goal quickly. I also want to say “thank you” to you all, and your support is very important to our team. Thank you very much.”

Friendly Match
I am glad to tell you that TFCF Cambodia Football Team was invited to play a friendly match with other teams in the community and all children did a great job with the result as a draw. Our children were encouraged a lot after they faced against a strong team. As you may remember that we are going to participate in a big football tournament in Oddar Meanchey Province by the end of this year, we anticipate that we will be selected to join the football tournament this November because of the fantastic result in the friendly match. All team members are looking forward to receiving high-level training to benefit and enhance their skills and our coach also works hard to provide more effective techniques to our children. I believe we will be ready soon for this big competition.
New training materials arrival
Despite the lack of resources, we still provided new footballs to the coach and children recently and it was the second time to deliver training materials since the team formed. I am grateful a donor donated 13 new footballs for our team and all children are so happy to see new balls. While in a difficult financial situation of the society, it makes fundraising difficult for our children and your support and encouragement will help them achieve their goal and make their dream come true. Thank you for staying with us for Cambodia children!
All the best!
With gratitude,
Wen Hung
