Thousands of children and young people had their education disrupted when a powerful earthquake struck Morocco. Schools in rural areas were hardest hit and remain closed. Many will need to be demolished and rebuilt. Whilst building gets underway in the months ahead, this project will help to fund essential equipment and materials to improve classrooms and school facilities in the High Atlas Mountains, helping to increase the quality of education pupils receive.
Schools in the High Atlas Mountains suffered significant damage after the devastating earthquake which measured a magnitude of 6.8. Structural assessments are in progress and restoring education in the region will take many months. Closing schools will have a lasting impact on young people in Berber Amazigh communities. As schools are rebuilt, they will urgently require the funding to help replace equipment and facilities that were destroyed.
This project focuses on the two large primary and secondary schools located in Asni. The schools are supported by the Moroccan Ministry of Education and local authority who fund major works and teacher salaries. Parent associations make regular contributions. EBF will be involved in the rebuild to help improve classrooms, enhance sports, arts and science facilities and provide new school equipment. Our vision is to create a welcoming and safe environment for teaching, learning and play.
We believe that children and young people everywhere deserve the best education. Our involvement in the project will help to improve and enhance Asni's schools provision post-disaster and ensure that more than 2,000 pupils have access to a stimulating, varied and quality education. With your support, we can provide this together.
