The Climb Morocco 2023 Team Summit Mount Toubkal
The Climb Morocco 2023 Team Summit Mount Toubkal

On the 8th September 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Morocco. Villages in the High Atlas Mountains were among the hardest hit. Our teams responded swiftly and were first on the ground in Asni to provide families with emergency relief and adequate shelter.

Five months on, many schools remain closed after suffering extensive damage. Once again, students have seen their education disrupted and schooling has been relocated far from home.

The Eve Branson Foundation has committed funds to help with the future reconstruction and rehabilitation of five schools and dozens of classrooms in the Asni valley. Our priority now is to safely restore the local schools, working hand in hand with the local education authorities.

Our fundraising efforts kicked off with the incredible Virgin 'Climb Morocco' challenge, led by pilot and adventurer Chris Hall. In his words “Our adventure group was a welcome bundle of energy and support, and our timing was spot on, coming when the focus was shifting to recovery and the long road back.”

Your donation means we have already been able to undertake essential repairs to the Tifaouine pre-school in Asni. We have installed a brand new playground and plan to open a second classroom, both vital spaces to support childhood development.

We have provided materials for other temporary learning spaces and will replace school equipment that was lost due to the earthquake. This project will help to improve facilities at both Asni Primary and Asni Lycée once they are rebuilt. This is all possible thanks to your much-needed support.

Schools are at the heart of our communities and we will provide the resources necessary in the months and years ahead to improve education for both the pupils and the teachers.

Thanks to you, our communities will rise again and we can get young people back on their learning path.
