Dear Friends,

After the ISIS terrorist attack on Mellat Sports Club located in the Hazara western part of Kabul in late November 2023, our team on the ground began the process of identifying the victims and their families.

Our team decided to visit the wounded in their homes to provide them with a modest assistance. Properly identifying families of the victims who are in dire need is one of the priorities of Bamyan Foundation. Mahmoud  (pseudonym), one of the injured in the attack, who spent a difficult 45 days in the hospital, told our team that he didn’t receive any assistance from any of the aid organizations. Mahmoud lives in a muddy rental house and the sole breadwinner for his family. Before the attack, he was working as a day laborer and the only breadwinner to support his family. After work, he would come to the gym for training. He was in urgent need of assistance for his treatment, and our help arrived at a proper time that brought a rare smile on his face.

In one of the impoverished and remote alleys in the west of Kabul, we knocked on the door of a man who lost both his legs in the explosion of a passenger car in Dashti Barchi. Despite his condition, he said that he goes out every day to find “a piece of bread [sustenance] for his wife and kids”. He doesn’t have an extended family network to seek support from and he humbly requested that the Foundation considers his family for long term support. He was immensely grateful for the support.

Also, around the same time, Nine Shia Hazara religious scholars were systematically murdered in Herat, and after the Bamyan Foundation team's survey, Seven of the victims’ families, who were in need, received financial support in the form of cash assistance. Among them was a woman who, besides losing her husband, had a young blind daughter, and the two women had not received any kind of support from anywhere.

All of the Bamyan Foundation aid beneficiaries, had similar painful stories about the loss of their loved ones and their harsh daily lives. Most of them requested for continued assistance.

The victims and the wounded who suffered from the recent ISIS terror attacks have complained about the government's lack of attention and need more cooperation and assistance for their full treatment.

This particular round of aid assistance covered the families of the victims related to three terror attacks (targeted assassination in Herat, attack on Mellat Sports Club and the attack on the passenger vehicles in the Hazara Dashti Barchi) who urgently needed attention. A total of 18 families benefited from this assistance. The assistance was distributed in January 2024.

Thank you for your support that enables us to reach Afghanistan's most marginalized and persecuted Hazara communities that are systematically targeted on the basis of race and religion in Afghanistan.
