As the vibrant colors of summer transition to the warm hues of autumn, our farm comes alive with a different energy. It's a season of change, and on our patch of land, it brings a plethora of activities that connect us to nature.
Harvesting becomes the central theme of our autumn days. The fruit trees are ready to share their treasures. The crisp air is filled with the sweet scent of ripe apples, pears, and plums. We gather baskets and, with a sense of anticipation, pluck the fruits from the branches. We engage in the timeless ritual of harvesting, grateful for the abundance that the season offers.
Pumpkins, now fully grown, rest on the soil, ready to be claimed. Harvesting vegetables becomes a common affair.
Autumn also marks the season of preserving. In the farmhouse kitchen, the scent of simmering jams and marinades wafts through the air. We spend hours peeling and slicing, transforming the harvested fruits and vegetables into jars of preserves that will capture the essence of autumn long after the leaves have fallen. The shelves slowly fill with jars – memories of the season's bounty.
Autumn invites moments of reflection. We gather around bonfires, make barbeque, sharing stories and marveling at the star-studded sky. The crackling flames create a sense of camaraderie, reminding us of the simple joys that come with embracing the changing seasons.
It's a tapestry of experiences for our students. We savor the richness that each day brings and cultivating a deep appreciation for nature.
