We are excited to share with you that during the months of May and June 2024, solar system installations were carried out in six remote communities without access to electricity in the municipalities of Chajul, Cotzal and Nebaj, in the Ixil region of the Department of Quiché, Guatemala. This success was thanks to our great partnership with WFPGuatemala and Mite Organization.
Our solar engineers (Solar Mamas) worked diligently to successfully assemble, deliver and install 350 solar home lighting systems in their corresponding communities, bringing light to more than 2,800 remotely living villagers. This a reflection of the path of empowerment that these exceptional women have travelled, from the: “I’m afraid because I can’t” and “I’m not able to learn” before starting the training, to the “I did it”, “I achieved it” once they completed the program. Insecurities became self-confidence; their skills and inspiration for other women and girls, breaking barriers, stereotypes and gender roles. We are proud and inspired by each of them.
We are thrilled and grateful to announce that our Solar Entrepreneurs (Solar Mamas) initiative won first place in the national final of the incubation program for climate impact ventures organized by the Clean Tech Hub in alliance with the Univerisdad Landivar of Guatemala. Our initiative was recognized for its achievements in offering cleaner, more sustainable energy alternatives to marginalized communities through the installation of Solar Home Lighting Systems.
In May we were selected to form part of the incubation program of the CCE Hub Guatemala with the support of the Clean Tech Hub. During the past months, we participated in a boot camp with different impactful entrepreneurship workshops and personalized mentoring sessions, it has been a learning path! We presented our initiative "Solar Entrepreneurs" at the national final. You can watch the final that was streamed live on their Facebook channel: https://www.facebook.com/urleconomicas
We also participated in the regional final with other entrepreneurs from Latin America and the Caribbean, which took place within the framework of NYC Climate Week. We are proud to be involved in this new opportunity and to continue working for climate, gender and social justice in Guatemala.
