Help Somali farmers especially women restore soil, grow food, and build climate-resilient livelihoods through composting and climate-smart farming.
In rural areas of Puntland, Somalia, smallholder farmers face declining soil fertility, low crop yields, and growing food insecurity. Years of soil degradation and overuse of chemical fertilizers have left farmland nutrient-depleted. Women farmers, who play a critical role in food production, often lack access to training and resources for sustainable agriculture. Without intervention, families remain vulnerable to hunger and environmental degradation.
Hope and Help Society is implementing a training program on sustainable agriculture and organic composting in Nugaal Region. Farmers learn to produce and apply solid and liquid compost using local organic materials, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, and improve soil fertility. The program combines practical training and theoretical lessons to ensure farmers can restore degraded soils, increase crop productivity, and share knowledge with their communities.
This project empowers farmers in Puntland by improving soil fertility, crop yields, and food security while reducing reliance on harmful chemical fertilizers. Women farmers gain practical, sustainable skills, adopting climate-resilient, environmentally friendly practices. By building local capacity, the initiative ensures long-lasting improvements in livelihoods, food security, and environmental stewardship.
