Illuminating Futures: Enabling children

Summary

The objective of this program is to educate and empower the children in slums and rural areas of Puducherry by offering evening remedial classes, counseling services, awareness and community-sensitizing programs.

Challenge

Less fortunate children born into poverty are facing challenges such as neglect, parents with unemployment, alcoholism and single parenthood. These children are forced to become child laborers either during or after school. Illiterate parents cannot assist the children with their home work or take care of their studies. In addition to that poor educational resources and poor infrastructure leave these children behind.

Solution

Evening school supports these children with experiential learning. Conduct of frequent awareness education on physical, psychological and social issues faced by the children helps them to have all round development. The Evening School provides a good ambience and learning atmosphere for the children. This program will help them to attain what they want.

Long-Term Impact

The Evening School would be a platform for the children to achieve their goal in their life. It would be a good resource for less privileged children who do not have access to have a good atmosphere at their homes.

Challenge

The children born into poverty are affected by a variety of societal issues which prevent them from achieving their goals. The factors such as unemployment and alcoholism within the family, single parenthood, neglect and abandonment makes children to become laborers either during or after school. The female children are forced to take care of her siblings or at worst case; they are made to indulge in prostitution. The illiteracy of parents will not help in any way supporting the child for their education. The poor infrastructure in their homes does not provide the child good learning experience.

Solution

The Evening school helps the children through remedial classes and experiential learning. Frequent conduct awareness programs related to physical, psychological and social issues faced by children are run by the school. Counseling and Guidance support is provided along with the regular classes. The children are fortunate to have a structured school atmosphere and helps to have their time more productive.

Long-Term Impact

As the children are the future generation of our nation, investment of time and resources are wise. The school will support the children to have ovr all development.

Updates

The classes for this academic year started in June. The children were offered school supplies. Regular orientation programs apart from their regular lessons are also being conducted.
