Summary
Educating and empowering children in slums and rural areas of Puducherry by offering evening remedial classes, counseling services, awareness and community-sensitizing programs.
Challenges
Less fortunate children born into poverty are affected by a variety of societal challenges that prevents them from achieving their goals. Factors such as unemployment and alcoholism within the family, single parenthood, neglect and abandonment force children to become laborers either during or after school. The uneducated parents can't support studies of their children and thereby worsening children's interest in education. Those children will pick up bad habits easily and become a burden for the society.
Solution
Evening school offers remedial classes and experiential learning. Awareness Generation Programs related to physical, psychological and social issues faced by children are regularly provided to the children. Counseling services by the counselor is available with the school. The children are involved with Children’s Parliament Program which inculcates leadership quality and get to know their rights and political system in India.
Long-Term Impact
The main goal is to empower and reenergize the children to pursue their dreams. The awareness programs and counseling services will address the childrens' needs holistically. We hope that awareness about oneself and society will help these children to develop a strong personal identity paired with coping and life skills. In addition, we hope that the children take these lessons into their adulthood.
Updates
New classes have been started at three places such as Rainbow Nagar, Solar Nagar, Varagupet for this academic year. The children were given school supplies. Medical camps for were conducted and national important days were celebrated.
