Village Survey

Village survey at Rasu Udaiyar Thottam, Colas Nagar, Puducherry

What is the importance of a village survey?

Village studies provide useful information to other disciplines: The sociologists and social anthropologists collect data Lo study different villages – their several aspects, their problems etc. The collected data are more accurate, reliable and unbiased. Hence these are highly useful for other social scientists. Keeping in mind the above fact, we conducted a survey Rasu Udaiyar Thottam, Colas Nagar, Puducherry

On 15.09.2022 three MSW interns from the MAR AUGUSTHINOSE college Ramapuram, Kerela and Mary Slessor, Program Manager from Prime Trust visited the Rasu Udayar Thottam at Colas Nagar, Puducherry. The team interacted with various people in the area. The men are auto drivers, painters and also go for coolie work. The women go for household and coolie work. The children attend schools in the nearby area. The government hospital is at a distance where they can avail of the services. There are a few school dropouts. Drinking water is bought from shops. The people put household waste into the drainage. It is affecting their environment. Some women are affected by cancer. Some people have breathing issues.  The people have to walk for a distance to get public transport.

Areas where Intervention is needed

  • A drinking water facility needs to be made
  • Awareness needs to be given about the disposal of waste. Dust bins need to be provided.
  • Making arrangements for share autos for transportation is a necessity.
  • Awareness programs on health and sanitation are needed.

Role of Prime Trust in Rasu Udayar Thottam

Prime Trust conducts a free evening school at Janani home, Colas Nagar very close to Rasu Udayar Thottam for the school-going children. The children from Rasu Udayar Thottam are also benefitted from the evening school.
