This project will build the capacities of 20 teenage mothers in Chihota to have improved livelihoods, access quality and affordable reusable sanitary products, go back to school as well as support their babies through manufacturing reusable sanitary pads.
Adolescent Girls' vulnerability to child marriages, unsafe backyard abortion, increased maternal mortality rate and commercial sexual exploitation, the effects of the HIV epidemic, sexually transmitted infections, early and unintended pregnancies as well as inadequate ASRHR knowledge coupled with lack of access to ASRHR services. It will also address the challenges faced by marginalized girls who were sexually abused particularly rape survivors who often face stigma, trauma or discrimination.
Since 24% of girls are married before 18 years;4% getting married before reaching the age of 15 years;About 1 in 5 adolescent girls (15-19 years) have been pregnant; we will support these girls with the right people, an enabling environment, material resources and effective interventions to succeed.Be it their confidence, positive decision-making,health and well-being, and achieve academic and personal goals.This will in turn provide them and their families with improved economic opportunities.
Long Term Impacts Improved lives and mind sets of 20 teen mothers to be Agents of Change who will excel in their lives. 20 Adolescent girls making informed decisions regarding their sex and sexuality if, when and why they should engage in sexual activity as well as the consequences. Strengthened and well-coordinated multi-stakeholder national proactive and response activities to deter the influx of teen mothers. Increased awareness on the harm of teen pregnancies to issues of SRHR.
