Ntsako Wa Wena will support LGBTQ+ refugees from across Africa in South Africa through provision of destitution services, asylum support, legal service provision, facilitating for the refugees to obtain support to further their education or entrepreneurship development and access to health related services that include psycho-social support and refugee activity co-ordination. This project aims at livelihood improvements of the LGBTQ+ community and creating a 'Home' away from 'Home.'
On a continent with 54 countries, homosexuality is outlawed in an estimate of 30 countries, with South Africa having led the revolution to acceptance of the LGBTQ+ rights in May 1996. Across Africa, many people go through community inflicted violence and persecution, politically influenced prosecution and in some communities where homophobia is extreme, they are killed. This results in LGBTIQ+ people , seeking refuge and asylum in countries where they legalized same sex relations.
Ntsako Wa Wena will identify the refugees in need of assistance, facilitate processes leading to the documentation of these LGBTQ+ migrants, and seek to improve their livelihoods through providing access to a scholarship program or an Entrepreneurship program to those in business. We will facilitate provision of shelter and rationed meals Where there is a need, we will further support and provide free legal services to LGBTQ+ community and additional Psycho-Social support to trauma victims.
This project will enhance the livelihoods of the LGBTQ+ community and refugees across Africa as it will establish registry of undocumented LGBTQ+ refugees, give access to education to the LGBTQ+ migrants and allow them to venture into business/entrepreneurship . This in turn will support their immediate families, friends and allys as they gain in dependency. This program will automatically alleviate poverty among the LGBT+ community, give free access to health, education and essential service
