The project will provide 700 Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese families living in abject poverty with winter items necessary to survive the upcoming winter season in the coldest areas in Lebanon.
Last winter, harsh weather swept through Lebanon, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and flooding hitting various areas. Refugees were impacted by extreme weather conditions. During the first storm, they struggled to cope with snow, rain, and winds that flooded sites and damaged shelters. This situation aggravated by the second storm, adding snow and low temperatures, causing floods and displacement and resulting in the death of 4 refugees, 3 of whom were children.
URDA Winterization plan of 2019-2020 aims to secure two main social services: relief and health. Relief services include the provision of core relief items: Food Items by the distribution of food parcels, and Non-Food Items through the distribution of fuel, blankets, winter clothes, and heaters. On the other side, health services include the provision of medicines, the operation of the mobile clinic in informal shelter sites, and the coverage of medical consultations for those in dire need.
The project will reduce the suffering of families who live in abject poverty and prevent fatalities.
