Children with cancer have a hard time managing at school while having to face periodical treatment courses, which happen during school-time. Therefore they are not able to keep up with their lessons. Our project will work with 6 teachers on offering additional lessons and activities to 50 children with cancer from poor families. This will help build self-confidence and improve their mental state after being behind their friends at school for so long because of their treatment courses.
Children who have cancer are committed to a treatment course that lasts for a few days, periodically, each month. The treatment takes place during school-time, and this is the reason children can't attend school on a regular basis. This is the cause why they are generally behind their friends at public schools. Always being behind and not managing to keep up with the others directly affects their mental state and makes them reject continuing their treatment courses.
This project will focus on 50 children with cancer that come from poor families, and will help them get additional lessons that will make up for the lost ones at school. With the support of 6 teachers who will help them understand lessons to keep up with the other kids at school, this project will encourage children who have cancer to continue their treatment course without it affecting their education and/or grades at school.
Children with cancer will not feel below other students at school. They will know they have support and there are people who care for them and help them get a proper education despite their illness. They will stop feeling as if cancer stands in the way of getting good grades at school. Children with cancer will finally forget the idea of dropping treatment for the sake of attending school. We hope this will improve their mental health and will make them dream big and believe in themselves.
