Summary

The civil war in Syria-now in its sixth year-has created the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. In recent days, government forces have seized the city of Aleppo, threatening the lives of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. Families continue to flee the devastating violence of medieval sieges and aerial bombardment of their neighborhoods. Help families who have escaped the conflict in Syria survive.

Challenge

Tens of thousands of Syrians uprooted from Aleppo are arriving in and around Al Dana town. Many families are sheltering in unfinished buildings without heat, toilets or running water. The vast majority of new arrivals are women and children, who have been forced to leave everything behind.

Solution

IRC aid workers are reaching exhausted and terrified arrivals in Al Dana town with food, fuel, emergency supplies (including mattresses, blankets, soap and towels), and emergency cash assistance for the most vulnerable families. The IRC also supports 12 nearby health facilities, five schools, and four livelihood centers that help Syrians boost their income through skills training, job placements, and business start-up grants.

Long-Term Impact

The IRC remains the only international relief organization delivering essential aid-including health care, protection for vulnerable women and children, education, and economic recovery-for millions of Syrians on all fronts: inside Syria, in neighboring countries; in Greece and broader Europe; and in the U.S., where the IRC resettles refugees from around the world. Your support can help these families-or others affected by war or disaster-survive and begin to rebuild their lives.
