Dear Supporter,
We are pleased to share an important update on the impactful work your support has made possible.
Our organization recently carried out a series of comprehensive legal awareness training sessions for vulnerable women in Darayya, Rural Damascus. The program reached 108 women, including widows, women-led households, and women with missing spouses—groups who often face the greatest legal uncertainty and barriers in accessing their rights.
The training focused on five essential areas that directly affect women’s daily lives and long-term security:
Property Rights & Documentation: Helping women understand ownership papers, inheritance rules, and the difference between private and state-owned property.
Personal Status Laws: Clarifying gender-based inheritance rights and key family law issues.
Practical Legal Procedures: Supporting women with tools to prove marriage or lineage when spouses are missing, and explaining procedures related to asset seizure.
Transitional Justice & Victim Rights: Addressing enforced disappearances, documentation of violations, and the pathways available for accountability.
Civil Law Essentials: Introducing lawsuit procedures, appeals, and how court decisions are enforced.
Each group participated in two interactive sessions, featuring real cases, open Q&A, group discussions, and practical examples. In addition, 12 women received personalized legal consultations for urgent or sensitive issues. Participants were also provided with clear, easy-to-use brochures summarizing all training topics, ensuring they have ongoing reference materials at home.
Because of your continued support, women in Darayya are now better equipped to protect their rights, make informed legal decisions, and navigate the justice system with confidence.
With gratitude,
FJO Team
