Understanding the Missing: Rights That Do Not Disappear

By Yasmina | Project Leader

Dear Supporter,

Thanks to your continued support, we are able to stand beside women facing some of the most painful realities of conflict and displacement.

The following day, the same group of 17 women returned for a session that addressed a deeply sensitive issue: the legal status of missing loved ones, and what that means for their rights and future.

The session clarified that under Syrian law, a missing person’s rights remain fully protected — including inheritance and property rights — until their fate is officially determined. Participants were guided through legal procedures, required documentation, the relevant courts, and the four-year legal timeframe applied in cases of war and disasters.

Beyond legal frameworks, the session focused on urgent, everyday challenges. Women received practical guidance on registering children born during displacement, documenting marriages conducted in conflict settings, and restoring lost or damaged identity papers — all essential steps to protect entire families.

To ensure these voices are heard beyond the session, a final survey was conducted to document the women’s needs and experiences. The findings will contribute to a research report aimed at strengthening advocacy efforts and advancing their rights.

Thank you for making this possible. Your support empowers women with knowledge, protects their rights, and helps restore stability and dignity to their lives. Together, we continue to create meaningful and lasting impact.
