Dear friends,

As Mavi Kalem, we know that women and children face more risks in disasters and emergencies. Therefore, our focus in all our work is to empower women and support their access to fundemantal public services.

In Turkey, as in the rest of the world, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on particularly vulnerable groups, individuals with poor access to basic services and poor economic conditions. Access to livelihoods has been restricted as a result of quarantine measures. Many people are laid off or forced to take unpaid leave. With rising unemployment rates and income losses, many families were left without financial support.

When we started the campaign, we targeted households with babies between the ages of 0-12 months and living in deep poverty. However, with the pandemic, we observed and identified that refugee and migrant women's access to livelihoods and health services is further reduced. For this reason, we give priority to the most vulnerable a Syrian and Afghan refugees in the distribution of baby kits that we purchased with your donations.

Thanks to your generous support, we have purchased a total of 124 baby sets to date. With our field teams, we distributed them to the most vulnerable families with babies under the Covid-19 pandemic conditions.

Thank you for your contribution and support when such support is needed most. We will continue to distribute baby kits that we will buy with your support and to support babies in the coming months.

As in the rest of the world, Covid-19 pandemic has affected whole life in Turkey and with the ongoing increase in the Covid-19 cases, it will continue to have serious impacts on the population as a whole. Particularly the vulnerable groups, the individuals who have inadequate access to basic services and who have poor economic conditions are more at risk. As a result of the quarantine measures access to livelihoods have been limited. Many people are laid off or forced to unpaid leave. With increasing unemployment rates and income losses, many families are lacking financial support.

After the first Covid-19 case was reported in March in Turkey we have adapted our working systems to continue carrying out our work remotely. Since then we have been continuing to provide support and service to our beneficiaries through digital channels and support their access to basic and essential services. As many families who reached our consultancy and support lines reported, poverty continues to increase. Due to insufficient resources, meeting basic needs has become much more difficult for many families and mostly these needs cannot be met.

Thanks to your generous support amidst this pandemic, we purchased 114 baby kits in total. untill now we distributed to the the most vulnerable families with babies under covid-19 pandemic conditions with our field teams. We started the distribution of the baby kits in August 2020. During the distribution of the kits, we took all necessary measures (inc. correct usage of face masks, maintenance of physical distance, etc.) to reduce risk of infection to protect both ourselves and our beneficiaries.

We thank you for your contribution and support when such support is needed the most. We will continue to distribute the baby kits that we will purchase with your support and to support babies in the coming months.
