Happy 2017 everyone!
We’ve got lots of great news to share with you in this update. First and foremost we've set our dates for the 2017 clinic, which is our fifth to date (!!). Our Perros Project team will be on the ground in Peru operating the clinic with our partners from July 10th to the 16th. For the second time in a row we will be able to host the clinic in Huancahco (instead of Trujillo) thanks to Sr. Paul at Hostal Huankarute. They will once again provide not only our lodgings, but also the clinic space.
We're excited that many of our previous volunteers have already said they'll be joining us again this summer, including our head veterinarian, Brenda, our extraordinary vet-tech and general “fixer”, Natalie, and our most trusted non-medical volunteer and head of patient recovery, Kim. Beyond our core team that's been there with us since our first clinic, we're also blessed to have returning members from prior clinics, including two veterinarians.
That said, we still have a couple of spots so If you or someone you know might be interested, let us know.
Our partners on the ground, Amigo Fiel and Huanchaco al Rescate have been quite active these last several months and both will be involved in preparation for our summer clinic. One of the most encouraging pieces of news from Huanchaco is the growing support of the local government, not only for our project, but for a whole host of activities aimed at improving the lives of area street dogs.
In other exciting news, we've launched a new website that is both mobile-friendly and much more visually appealing - please check it out at www.PerrosProject.org. We’d love to hear what you think about it, so please send us an email at perrosproject@gmail.com.
Finally, financially speaking, the close of 2016 found the Perros Project, way within the black thanks to generous supporters like you. One of our bucket-list items that we will be pursuing in 2017 is a portable anesthesia machine, which will make the surgeries safer and smoother for all of our patients. It would also be an important advance in veterinary medicine for the region. We’ll keep you up-to-date on our progress.
