Dear Global Givers,
We at iPartner India wish you a very Happy 2023! We hope that this year we will continue to collectively work as we have in the past to make our world a little kinder and spread joy.
Here’s an update from our campaign ‘Help to feed Hungry and Malnourished children!’. Through your support we have been able to provide nutritious meals to 100 children, living on the streets of Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid area.
The number of homeless adults and children is on the rise in India. Poverty is one of the leading causes of children fending for themselves on the streets. Most of these children are at high risk of facing abuse, especially among adolescent street children which include substance, sexual and physical abuse. These children are often described as ‘hidden’ or ‘invisible’ in a lack of identity, recognition, or social status that can make them count.
Since the start of the campaign, our team on the ground has provided breakfast and lunch to 100 street children every day in two locations in old Delhi. The children are provided two meals a day from Monday to Saturday. A well-balanced and nutritious menu has been charted out for each meal.
UPDATE FROM THE GROUND
The food distribution drive began in September 2022 and it’s been more than 100 days that we have been distributing food to street children every day.
In total, 18,090 meals were served to street children with an average of 95 children served per day.
A thorough quality check is done by the team and feedback from the children is taken to ensure the meals are not only good in taste but also have nutritional value.
The team members face numerous challenges during meal distribution as many homeless adults also line up to eat despite the team making it clear that the meals are strictly meant for the children. With all these challenges and the bitter winter in Delhi making it even harder for these children, we are hopeful that with your support, we will be able to provide at least two meals a day.
We will continually raise our voices for these children and push for a more inclusive policy where these ‘invisible’ population will also get their due recognition and support from the government through various rehabilitation programmes.
Thank you, Global Givers, we look forward to your support and solidarity in bringing joy and hope to India’s homeless street children.
With deep gratitude,
Team iPartner India
