Habitat loss and illegal poaching have resulted in the significant decline of Bornean orangutans and urgent conservation efforts are needed to save their future. The Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation rescues and rehabilitates orphaned or displaced orangutans with the goal of keeping the wild population safeguarded.
By using non-invasive camera traps we can monitor and protect large, more remote areas of the forest, supplementing existing post-release monitoring efforts carried out by our team members. Furthermore, the continuous collection of data without human presence allows for the coverage of more elusive orangutans.
With so few orangutans remaining in the world today, there is a great need to make sure every individual is afforded the opportunity of a safe, natural forest home. Data from the camera traps allows us to protect them but also understand how this new population is adapting to life in the wild.
