Summary

Rural communities often face challenges in trying to look after their dogs and animals. Lack of understanding, transport challenges, or simply lacking funds to pay veterinary bills. These are all reasons that dogs may be struggling with illnesses, have wounds left untreated or why unwanted puppies get thrown away. Our goal is to engage through animal kindness, TVT (cancer) treatment, and sterilization. This helps prevent unwanted dogs, educates owners and supports healthy village dogs.

Challenge

Many diseases such as mange, TVT, ticks, and worms have a negative impact on the welfare of dogs in rural communities. Many families lack the education & knowledge or funds and access to know how to treat their dogs and animals or to be able to afford to do so. Dogs are an intrinsic part of life in any African village and our goal is to uplift their welfare through combining education with the support for the owners to be able to access treatment such as dipping, deworming, and sterilization.

Solution

The best way to prevent dogs from TVT ( sexually transmitted cancer) and other diseases is to sterilize. Our aim is to sterilize as many as dogs as possible, assisting owners by reducing the number of unwanted puppies, and preventing dogs becoming aggressive or going on heat. In addition, we dip the dogs for ticks and fleas, or wounds. We provide food for dogs that are underfed and educate their owners on proper care and welfare

Long-Term Impact

The long term goal is for the dogs and animals in Sigagule village and surrounds to be well fed, and well looked after and kindly treated - and for owners to feel empowered and educated in the process of developing knowledge on their own animals welfare. Healthy dogs in a community will also lead to less disease ( such as fleas or worms ) spreading to vulnerable people. We believe in the one health principle: healthy animals are linked to a healthy environment is linked to healthy people.
