We are fundraising to expand a little space we have at our Community Centre in Ioannina, Greece, into a full library. It has great potential to support the lives of our participants - assisting with education, language learning and as a relaxing, safe space. One of our main goals is to offer the local displaced community resources and education that can support their day-to-day lives and social integration. Your money will help us with the running costs, the cost of books and new furniture.
Displaced people living in camps or other accommodation in and around Ioannina, Greece, often do not receive an adequate level of education that they need in their daily lives, in growing up, or to integrate within the local community. Furthermore, there is often little opportunity for adults and children alike to find a quiet space to read and study within their living situations.
Our library has incredible potential to support the lives of our participants. It has the capacity to be developed into a language centre, complementing the language classes provided in our centre, and furthering our efforts to aid social integration within the community. Language guides and multilingual books to support learning in English, Greek, German, French, and more would be a huge asset. Furthermore, the library will provide a safe and quiet space for people to read, study, and relax.
Since its inception, BAAS' priority has always been to assist people by means of engaging in social activities and education. However, due to the great gap in refugees' most basic needs compared to the rest of the population, we decided to open a community centre that combines all these activities. Supporting educational development within the community opens doors to hundreds of opportunities.
