Accepting Federal administrative system in 2015, administrative powers shared into Seven provinces in Nepal. Province No. 2 is having minimal natural resources among all provinces. Having 8 districts, out of 77 districts geographically, Parsa National Park (PNP), only one Protected Area (PA) of province is located in Western part and Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) falling in Province-1 is attached to Eastern part of this province. This attracts wildlife to travel from KTWR to PNP year round.
Corridor breaking due to unmanaged human settlements in wildlife corridor is increasing human-wildlife conflict. Community forests are playing a significant role to restore forest through Shivalik Chure range. Lacking knowledge on wildlife, no action is taken to protect them from poachers and hunters. All governmental and non-governmental resources related to wildlife are centered inside PAs and Division Forest Offices responsible outside PA have no resources availed to conserve them.
We use to rescue wildlife from human settlements through wildlife corridors in province no.-2. During our interaction and awareness program with most vulnerable community residing at corridor, we noticed that they don't have knowledge on conservation need of wildlife in their surroundings. Awareness to most affected community and involvement of responsible staff from respective DFOs will increase community involvement in conservation which will ensure sustainable wildlife conservation in return.
We strongly believe in "we should save human life dying due to wildlife, if we really want to protect wildlife". It is local residents who spends most of their time in close relation with the wildlife and forest, and without their ownership, our effort to protect wildlife and their habitat will not be sustainable. Training opportunity for ecotourism activities and technical skill transfer for forest based enterprises will ensure livelihood support to community, increasing in-situ conservation.
