This madness will stop, eventually, and after that, we'll clean up, put the pieces back together and move on. Over the last 15 years, we've managed multiple construction crews here in Moldova, building the Eco-village complex, Katalyst Kitchens, and repairing houses and apartments for many friends and family. We have a lot of experience, and contacts. But what if you intersect that with our professional backgrounds in non-formal education? Let us introduce the Katalyst Vocational School.
Starting later this spring, we'll organize a 3-month vocational program for Ukrainian men and women, of all ages, to prepare them for rebuilding their homes, schools, hospitals and workplaces. They'll gain the necessary skills and confidence, in the classroom and through practice, by repairing homes near Eco-village for elderly and vulnerable families.
The course will include: a) food, lodging, transport, a set of personal instruments and work clothing b) a review of math, geometry & physics c) the basics of working with concrete, wood, metal and finishing steps d) an introduction to open-source design software, engineering, architecture, plumbing, electrical & heating systems e) the differences between residential vs. commercial building practices
Ukraine is on fire right now. But, once the dust settles, most will return home and begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Helping them develop hard skills while they wait in Moldova not only takes their minds off the constant bad news, but shifts the focus to the horizon.
