Since last year we've been designing and implementing courses that help those who suffered from forced displacement re-orient their professional path and get rapidly adjusted to the needs of the local job market. Because you can give a fish, or you can teach how to fish.
This spring we launched a new vocational program for women to learn basics of construction and repairs. 20 participants are being introduced to the key elements of the construction business in order to offer repair and constructoin services as individual contractors or get employed by construction companies in management of brigades
The curricullum combines theory and practice, but makes a much stronger emphasis on learning by doing. Topics range from architecture to woodwork, masonry, insulation, even plumbing, giving participants a basic understanding of all dimensions of construction.
Because one day the dust will settle, and our visitors from Ukraine will return home to rebuild their homes, schools and communities. And giving them practical skills while they are here, not only builds confidence, but helps them focus on the horizon.
In the meantime our food bank has been continuing its work and evolving further. Even after 2.5 years we still prepare healthy food bought from local producers, and deliver to thousands of families every week. We remain the last standing refugee food bank in Moldova.

Another way Katalyst evolved was to develop a process that allows clients to check themselves in or make an appointment, because having more control makes a big difference when you’re far from home.
We designed our own app which has reduced waiting time, simplified the check-in process and contributed to a more fair and disciplined distribution of food. Even though it's just a few clicks, sometimes elderly need a little assistance with operating the app during their first visit. We appreciate that over 2,5 years a culture of mutual support has emerged at our distrubutions, so they are not left behind.
