The first few hours after a disaster are critical. It is life or death. The faster we respond to disasters, the more lives we save. Together, let's ensure that life-saving resources are readily available for distribution, so we are prepared even before the disaster strikes. With a prepositioned emergency fund, we can immediately conduct rapid assessment and mount an emergency response, have ready stocks of life-saving kits, and be able to train staff on essential humanitarian skills.
Philippines is among the top 3 of World's Most At-Risk Countries due to its exposure and vulnerability to disasters and calamities. Every year, the Philippines experiences various disasters that exacerbate the living situation of people. Around 22 typhoons strike the country yearly, where 6-7 cause significant damage and its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire makes it highly prone to volcanic eruption and earthquakes. Conflicts in Mindanao also cause intermittent cycles of displacements.
The first few hours after a disaster are critical. It is life or death. By being on the ground quickly, we can help ensure that thousands of children and their families get the life-saving aid, food, water and protection that they need because of the sufficient stocks of life-saving kits that have been made available ahead for distribution.
With a steady stream of standby emergency funding, we can anytime activate and mobilize the humanitarian response team to be on the ground quickly, conduct rapid assessment, and provide immediate and life-saving support to affected children and their families; ensure that sufficient stocks of life-saving kits are available for distribution any time; equip staff, partners and volunteer with essential skills for a world-class emergency response.
