In the summer of 2026, our team received an urgent call about three young siblings who had been abandoned in extremely poor conditions. When our team reached them, the children were severely malnourished, critically ill, and in urgent need of medical care.
Their names are Elijah, Goodnews and Godbless.
When they arrived at Land of Hope, their physical condition required immediate attention. They were diagnosed with malaria, typhoid and scabies. Because scabies is contagious, the siblings initially had to stay isolated in a room at our health clinic while receiving treatment.
But rescuing a child is about much more than treating illness.
One of the hardest things to witness when we rescue children is the fear in their eyes. Wounds can be cleaned. Illnesses can be treated. Malnutrition can gradually be reversed. Rebuilding a child's trust takes something different: time, safety, patience and care.
And then, after about three weeks, something beautiful happened.
They slowly started to smile again.
Children heal childrenAt Land of Hope, newly rescued children become part of a community with children who understand what it feels like to have been abandoned and suddenly arrive in a completely new world.
Hope is one of those children.
When the three siblings arrived, Hope spent time with them, played with them and helped give them the closeness and sense of safety they needed. The care that Hope once received himself, he is now passing on to younger children.
We often say at Land of Hope that children heal children.
The older children know what it is like to arrive frightened and vulnerable. Today, many of them are able to help newly rescued children through those difficult first weeks and months.
It is a full circle.
Care becomes care.
Hope becomes hope.
The transformation of Elijah, Goodnews and Godbless reminds us why rescue is only the beginning.
They arrived severely malnourished, critically ill and in need of urgent medical attention. Today, the smiles on their faces tell another story.
This transformation does not happen by itself.
It is possible because people around the world choose to stand with us. Your donations help make it possible for our team to respond when a child needs urgent help and to provide the treatment, nutrition, safety and care that follow a rescue.
Thank you for helping us give children like Elijah, Goodnews and Godbless not only the chance to survive, but the chance to heal, trust and be children again.
With love,
