Zimconserve is a local non-profit making organization in Zimbabwe whose mandate is the promotion of permaculture as a viable and sustainable mode of agriculture to the so-called conventional farming. This model is specifically targeted at the most vulnerable farmers as it demands less in terms of input costs. And towards this end,the organization is focused on setting up a permaculture centre within Seke rural ,in order so as to fully propagate and advance these ideals on a broader scale.
Holistic research and feasibility studies carried out as an organization have indicated that below par(low)levels of education within Seke community have precipitated a variety of challenges chiefly among them reckless land use mechanisms, rapid deforestation, acute cases of malnutrition and abject poverty. These social ills compounded by a complex political landscape has thus galvanized Zimconserve to partake in these mitigatory efforts for the betterment of this vulnerable community of Seke.
Permaculture as a model of farming boasts advantages as compared to other farming methods. In respect to this, Permaculture foothold is firmly embedded within the philosophy that farming viable farming is possible and can be done in such a sustainable way,so as to speak, within a given area, using local readily available resources without the need to import foreign inputs such as fertilisers. Permaculture curb reliance on chemicals when natural herbicides and fertilizers can be put to better use
With this project up and running a number of societal needs are bound to be met. Chief among those needs are United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, that include Zero Hunger,No Poverty Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education,Climate Action,Clean Water and Sanitation. Initially, about 100 households in Seke are set to benefit from this resource centre and permaculture know-how is bound to spread across communities as the beneficiaries continue to impart the knowledge to others
