Floods Have Reduced, and Many Families Are Now Back

Introduction

Paponditi village has recently experienced devastating floods caused by the overflow of the River Sondu Miriu. While the floodwaters have significantly reduced, many families remain in distress, with some now returning to their homes to rebuild their lives. However, the aftermath has left numerous households struggling to recover.

Impact of the Floods

The floods resulted in:

  1. Displacement of Families: Many families were forced to leave their homes, seeking temporary shelter in nearby schools, churches, and makeshift camps.
  2. Loss of Property: Houses, crops, and personal belongings were destroyed or washed away.
  3. Food Insecurity: Farms were submerged, and food supplies were lost, leaving families struggling for sustenance.
  4. Health Concerns: The stagnant water heightened the risk of waterborne diseases, putting the community's health at risk.

Current Situation

  • The floodwaters have receded, and some families have begun returning to their homes.
  • Many households are starting the process of rebuilding, but the majority lack the necessary resources to restore their lives fully.
  • Temporary shelters still house some families who have lost everything.

Immediate Needs

Even as families return, there remains a critical need for:

  1. Food Supplies: Non-perishable food items such as rice, beans, maize flour, and cooking oil to address hunger.
  2. Non-Food Items: Bedding, clothing, hygiene kits, and utensils to support families as they rebuild.
  3. Shelter Support: Materials like tarpaulins, tents, and construction tools to help reconstruct homes.
  4. Health Services: Access to clean water and medical supplies to mitigate health risks.

Appeal for Assistance

We appeal to all well-wishers, organizations, and government agencies to support the affected families in Paponditi. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help these families rebuild and regain stability.
