This project will equip 50 isolated English teachers in Devashtich District, Tajikistan, with professional TESOL certifications. Rural teachers currently lack high-speed internet and modern training. Sponsoring their tuition and providing internet access allows teachers to master modern methodologies. In turn, they will provide high-quality education to rural youth, unlocking vital future academic and employment opportunities for an entire community.
Tajikistan ranks 110th globally in the 2025 EF English Proficiency Index with a "very low" proficiency score of 409. The British Council reports that rural students face the steepest challenges due to a widening urban-rural educational divide. English teachers in the Devashtich District lack professional development and connectivity. State-provided training occurs only once every five years using outdated methods, leaving teachers unable to keep pace with modern educational practices
We are sponsoring the full tuition costs for 50 teachers to complete the online TESOL course. To overcome the lack of connectivity, we are installing high-speed internet in Secondary School No. 10, where the administration has generously donated their computer lab for this project. This ensures teachers can seamlessly access modern digital resources, upgrade their skills, and immediately bring effective, interactive language instruction to their classrooms.
Teachers will earn a globally recognized TESOL certification, enabling them to deliver high-quality, efficient lessons. Participants will peer-mentor other local educators, multiplying the project's reach. Students will gain the vital language skills required to access higher education and competitive jobs, breaking the cycle of rural poverty. This educational seed will uplift the community and sustainably advance the long-term socio-economic advantages of language learning.
