Dear Valued Supporters,
We are excited to share the incredible progress of the "Helping Women Forest Rangers Saving Rainforests" project, made possible by your unwavering support. With your generous contributions, we've raised funding that directly contributes to the training of new women forest guards, who are on the frontline of rainforest conservation, bravely risking their lives in one of the most dangerous countries for forest defenders.
In 2023, thanks to supporters like you, we welcomed a new woman ranger, Eddy Jojhana, to our dedicated team. Eddy is a passionate advocate for conservation, a professional in nature guiding, and a proud mother of two daughters. Hailing from the municipality of Ocaña in North Santander, she brings a deep love and respect for nature instilled by her upbringing in the remote rainforest, guided by her grandfather's wisdom.
Jhojanna's journey as a forest ranger in the ProAves Hormiguero de Torcoroma Nature Reserve is marked by courage, enthusiasm, and a commitment to environmental education. She uses her extensive knowledge to protect ecosystems, care for reserve species, and monitor wildlife. Through activities like ecological walks, bird expositions, and visits to rural schools, Jhojanna actively engages with the community, emphasizing the importance of conservation.
Your support has not only empowered women like Jhojanna but has also contributed to the protection of the Torcoroma Nature Reserve, home to iconic species such as the Endangered Recurve-billed bushbird, Black-fronted wood quail, Grey-throated Warbler, Moustached brushfinch, and Golden-breasted fruiteater. Jhojanna's dedication, love, and commitment to nature make her an inspiring figure in her community, showcasing that leading by example is the most powerful conservation message.
As we celebrate these achievements, we recognize the ongoing need for support to ensure the sustainability of our programs. Your continued generosity will not only help sustain the impact of our current initiatives but will also contribute to the education of future generations and the protection of endangered wildlife.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Women for Conservation Team
