As we wrap up the first quarter of 2024/25, and prepare our Annual Report for 2023/34, the team at BKFA have reflected on the changes we’re seeing in our supporter base.
While Birthing Kit Assembly Days are occurring in rising numbers (up almost 5% on the same time last year), the number of kits assembled at them is lower than in pre-COVID years, telling us that our enthusiastic Australian supporters are struggling to find the funds they need. To maximise local production, the BKFA Board and staff committed to maintaining the price of a kit at AU$5 for kits produced in Australia.
To continue growing the number of kits produced and distributed via our Field Partners, we are looking at ways to fund additional kits for existing Assembly Days, and find new organisations to work with, assembling kits beyond our borders in Australia.
We have introduced international Assembly Days, with kits being produced and distributed at a cost of US$5. We have seen enthusiastic take-up of this offering, with interest from corporate groups, and a number of Zonta Clubs from the USA and NZ who attended the Zonta International Convention in Brisbane in June.
Donations received from our GlobalGiving supporters will assist in boosting kit production numbers, by enabling us to supply additional kit components to willing Assembly Day teams.
Our vision remains unchanged: A world in which all women and girls have access to a clean and safe birth. Thinking creatively about how we can achieve this vision will be the key to making this vision a reality.
