In the past 12 months, Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA) has taken a significant step forward in our mission to support safer births worldwide, expanding our reach through international Assembly Days.
Thanks to increased support from global corporate and service partners, Assembly Days have become a truly international movement. Over the 2024/25 financial year, events were held not only across Australia but also in Sweden, Denmark, the USA, the UK, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, and New Zealand. These global efforts reflect a growing international commitment to maternal and newborn health, uniting people from all corners of the world in a shared cause.
We especially acknowledge our growing partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific, which began in 2023 and has since expanded to include staff participation from international offices. Their volunteer efforts form part of Thermo Fisher’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, including advancing global health equity by partnering with customers, governments, and nonprofits to remove barriers to accessibility, ensuring everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health.
As a result of this expanding network of volunteers and supporters, the number of Assembly Days grew from 260 last year to 303 this year - a 17% year-on-year increase. Clean birth kit production at Assembly Days rose from 103,210 kits to 118,940, helping to protect thousands more women and babies from preventable infections during childbirth.
This momentum underscores the power of community-led action and international solidarity. Each kit packed represents not just a potential life saved, but the compassion and care of people around the world who believe every woman deserves a safe birth.
