Challenge

Millions of women live in underserved communities across Zambia, without access to opportunities. Families are trapped in an intergenerational poverty cycle, compounded by disempowered women and a lack of access to reliable, affordable, clean energy. Most of the women that Kukula Solar trains have not completed formal education and live in areas where there are few opportunities for employment.

Solution

Kukula Solar will provide training to women in gender and empowerment so that they can start their own energy businesses in their community. Through this project, we plan to see women trained to improve their self-confidence and business skills, and empowering them to lead their families out of poverty

Long-Term Impact

The potential long term impact of this project are: 1. an average increase of 50% in individual incomes 2. Greater economic empowerment with 100% of women contributing to household income. 3. More women encouraged to take up leadership roles in their community through the gender and empowerment training provided.
