Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the number of calls from women victims of violence who need urgent accommodation or assistance of another kind, most often financial, has increased significantly. In a period of 2 months alone, we did 151 hours of help and support for a total of 70 people. This project will help us to continue providing our maximum support to all beneficiaries of the Counseling "Maja Culic" (accommodation, food, transport, hygiene supplies, psychological and legal assistance, etc.).
The current situation caused by the COVID-19 virus is one of the factors increasing the incidence of domestic violence and violence among partners. Social norms and non-supporting systems in Croatia (lack of counseling, shelters, SOS helpline, crisis centers, etc.) favor this problem. We are witnessing an enormous increase in domestic violence, and consequently the loss of women around the world without a home and income for life, and we need financial resources to help all those who need it.
This project will provide financial and material assistance (temporary accommodation, food, transportation, financial or other material assistance, general, psychological and/or legal assistance and support, and testing for COVID-19) to all women victims of violence and victims of domestic violence who need help in severe conditions caused by the covid-19 virus. This is an unforeseen situation for which we do not have the funds, and we are forced to act and help.
In 2 months period, we did 151 hours of help and support. Assistance such as temporary accommodation, food costs, transport, financial or other material assistance, psychological and/or legal assistance and support was received by a total of 70 people, of whom more than 90% were women. As the crisis period continues and a new deterioration is expected, we anticipate that the trend of increasing violence against women and domestic violence and an increase in requests for help and support.
