Summary

We believe it will be important for adolescent girls and young women to play a strong role in rebuilding Nepal by coordinating and participating in immediate relief work, and in long-term efforts. We ask for your financial support as we provide our staff, participants and partners with the resources they need to effectively respond to this disaster. All funds donated will go directly to our leaders, the projects they choose to run and our core operations as we support them.

Challenge

The devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25th left many families homeless, grieving and in shock. The young women we train and mentor at Women LEAD Nepal have lost relatives and homes. Reeti, a 17 year old participant, had this to say about the conditions on the ground: "The night in the field was the worst night I've ever had. It was not just full of mosquitoes and sleeplessness but shivers from the pouring rain".

Solution

We have been distributing blankets and sanitary pads to those who need them, and our leaders have organized a project to help the student victims of the earthquake studying in Grade 11 and 12 by providing them with the necessary study materials, such as books and stationary. Two of our leaders, Samikshya and Riya, have been trekking to remote village to deliver supplies, and are often the first responders on the scene. Please support our leaders as they rebuild their communities.

Long-Term Impact

The devastation seen in Nepal will require a lengthy recovery. The focus of our organization is empowering young women to lead and there is no better time to do that than now. Our leaders are the central point of rebuilding in their community, utilizing skills learned through Women LEAD to coordinate recovery efforts. Our commitment as an organization is to ensure that this tragedy becomes an opportunity to rebuild a stronger Nepal with young women leading the way.
