In Pakistan, an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 are not attending school, which is 44 percent of the total population in this age group. Access to quality education for children living in rural areas and especially Afghan children is major challenge.

The newly introduced Accelerated Learning Program by Relief International is improving equitable access to safe and quality education for Afghan and host community children. This program aims to increase empowerment, dignity, and life opportunities in Pakistan.

So far, 40 centers with 40 trained facilitators have been established and are currently serving more than 1600 children. RI further provided these children with school kits and ALP student packages.

AIli* is a six-year-old boy living in District Swabi with his family of eight siblings and parents. They struggled to make ends meet – which forced him used to work on farms in exchange for goods for his family.

With RI's support he has since enrolled in primary school after graduating from Relief International's School Readiness Program Center and is progressing well.

More than 1000 Afghan women, parents, and teachers in District Nowshera, Swabi & Peshawar have been trained on safeguarding and child protection – to advance the significance of education and their role in creating safe spaces for children to learn and grow.
