Rawa Ikhlaq is ten years old and the first thing you notice when you meet her is her
bright endearing eyes which shine despite her pain. She was diagnosed with
Juvenile Dermatomyositis which is the inflammation of the muscles and was not
able to walk. Today with specialist treatment at Fatima Memorial Hospital with
the support of Arthritis Care Foundation is now able to attend school again.
These stories give us hope and the strength to continue with our mission.
Please donate today and change lives.
Arthritis Care Foundation established in 2001 in collaboration with Fatima Memorial
Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan
provides Physiotherapy and Diagnostic supports to deserving patients.
The disease can strike at any time and without proper care can lead to severe
disabilities affecting patients for a lifetime. However, today through early
diagnosis and extensive treatment rheumatologists can significantly help
prevent disability and death in patients suffering from rheumatic diseases.
The challenges faced in Pakistan are the expensive treatments and acute shortage of
Rheumatologists in the country. Currently there are about 30 qualified
Rheumatologists for a population of almost 180 million whereas the
international requirement is 1 Rheumatologists for 80,000 people. The
staggering figures means that early detection does not take place which further
hinders helping patients with treatment. The Arthritis Foundation with its
limited financial and human resources try to meet the challenges faced in the
sector in our country.
From July 2012 to March 2013, the foundation treated 3804 patients with cost of
almost 4 million rupees (40,000 USD). This was only possible with the support
of countless who have been kind enough to be a part of this mission in
whichever they can.
