Hello everybody!
Greetings from Pattaya in Thailand. We have just finished the Songkran holiday here. Songkran is the Thai New Year Festival . It is a huge festival and can be compared to Easter, Christmas and Thanks Giving put into one. Basically, all of Thailand shuts down for a week, people travel, visit family and play with water. It is also called the biggest water fight in the world and is a lot of fun.
We are happy that all our women have returned with their children well from the holidays. Tamar Center was closed for 10 days in order to give them time to travel home and enjoy time with family. For the once that stayed behind we organized some outings which they and especially the kids enjoyed very much.
One of our women also gave birth to a healthy baby girl just before Songkran, which is very nice. In March, the Thai school year finished and soon, first weeks of May, the Thai schools are starting with their new term. The dates are different for each school, which makes it a bit confusing. For the time of the school holidays we had a bigger number of kids in our Nursery and we got extra help from Volunteers to look after them and play with them.
This week we will start paying out money for the school fees and school uniforms for the new school term to the different mothers. They are happy that this is covered now and one mother was overjoyed when she could be one of the first once to pay the fees for her child in the school.
In total, we have now 17 kids in our sponsorship program from Tamar. We added two kids and we lost one kid, due to the mother finding other sponsors for her child.
Please enjoy the pictures from the outing and the day of the start of the Songkran Holiday.
Thank you that you are making it possible for these children to be sponsored and so have a better chance in life. There are sadly about 1.4 million children in Thailand that are not attending school, mostly due to lack of finances. But you are making a big difference in the lifes of these children - some of them would not be in school without your help.
